The U.S. Telecommunications Recession: Damage Done and Recovery Characteristics
In today's turbulent economy, telecommunications products and services have not been spared from curtailed business due to declining consumer confidence. As employment plummets and personal income stalls, year-over-year growth in total telecommunications spending will slow from over 6.5% in 2007 to 2.7% in 2009.
IHS Global Insight's new study, The U.S. Telecommunications Recession: Damage Done and Recovery Characteristics, analyzes the recession's impact on telecommunications products and determines the expected recovery pattern for each product. All products and services exhibit different recovery patterns based on the sector and geography of spending.
The study is broken down geographically (into 50 states and 378 metro areas) to analyze and forecast the spending patterns for each telecommunication product and service. It covers over 10 sectors, and is segmented into five business-size categories (1–19, 20–49, 50–99, 100–499, and 500+ employees). The report is accompanied by a database containing historical and forecast telecom spending data by product and industry.
IHS Global Insight's study addresses the following key questions:
- What damage did the recession cause in the telecommunication industry?
- How were the different products and services affected by the recession?
- When are sales of these products and services going to recover?
- Which products have a competitive advantage for recovery and in which sector and state?
- Are access lines more at risk in the financial sector?
- In which state will wireless voice spending rebound first?
