The Economic Value of the Liner Shipping Industry

In 2009, the World Shipping Council (WSC) sponsored a report measuring the economic value of the liner shipping industry. This report, prepared by IHS Global Insight, was released on 9 December 2009. The report provides:

Annual global economic contribution—both direct and indirect—of the liner shipping industry in terms of GDP contribution, direct capital expenditure, and jobs
Value and quantity of transported cargo
Detailed information about the size and scope of liner shipping operations

While many reports exist that measure the value of global maritime transportation, this report is unique in providing an in-depth look at the importance of the liner component.
