U.S. Construction Spending to Keep Falling through 2010

Rebound Expected in 2011 as Commercial Construction Joins Residential in Recovery

Fourth Quarter U.S. Construction Briefing

IHS Global Insight's U.S. Construction Quarterly Briefing combines IHS Global Insight's proprietary databases, public data sources and private market research to provide an independent, fact-based outlook of highways and streets, transportation, power, and water and sewage construction.

The Fourth Quarter U.S. Construction Briefing estimates that total construction spending is expected to fall more than 12% in 2009 and over 5% in 2010 before rebounding in 2011 and 2012. The mixed outlook for construction — weak nonresidential construction, but strengthening residential construction — mirrors the mixed outlook for the broader economy: GDP returning to positive growth but jobs and consumer confidence trailing.
